Profile: Iron Studies. Tests: 5 parameters: Iron, UIBC (Unsaturated Iron-Binding Capacity), Iron Binding Capacity - Total (TIBC), Transferrin and % Iron Saturation. Price: From 550. Fasting: Not required. Sample: Serum. Reports: 24 hours, digital. Home collection: Available across Faridabad; any charge is shown in the booking flow. Lab: NABL-accredited. Breathlessness on stairs, a pale face, tiredness that does not clear after a day off: when these appear in someone with a physically demanding job, they are often put down to the work. Iron Studies checks whether iron deficiency is contributing. No fasting is needed, so there is no skipped breakfast before an early shift, and the sample can be drawn before or after work. ## What Each Value Shows Iron is the amount in the blood now. Transferrin is the transport protein. Iron Binding Capacity - Total (TIBC) is the total iron that protein could carry, UIBC (Unsaturated Iron-Binding Capacity) is the part not yet used, and Iron plus UIBC equals TIBC. % Iron Saturation is Iron as a percentage of TIBC. Low saturation with raised TIBC is the signature of iron deficiency. ## Pattern Reading Iron deficiency shows low iron, high TIBC and transferrin, and low saturation. Chronic disease shows low iron with low or normal TIBC. Iron overload shows high iron and saturation with low UIBC. Over 50% of Indian women aged 15–49 are anaemic (NFHS-5, 2019–21), so women in households across the NIT sectors and Old Faridabad are a common reason for testing, though men with symptoms are tested as well. ## Physical Work, Shifts and the Sample Heavy exertion in the day before a test can shift blood chemistry, and iron readings are one of the values that can vary, so avoid unusually hard exercise beforehand where you can; routine working days need no change. Serum iron also runs higher in the morning and rises after an iron tablet, so tell the phlebotomist about supplements and your usual shift timing, and use the same time of day if repeating the test to judge treatment. Home collection is available in Sector 15, Sector 21C, NIT 5, Ballabgarh, Sector 86 and Neharpar. ## Ferritin and Inflammation Ferritin, the storage protein, is not one of the five parameters. It is an acute-phase reactant that rises with infection or inflammation, which can make iron stores look adequate when they are not. Saturation and TIBC give another angle. Ferritin is ordered separately. ## What This Profile Cannot Do It cannot identify why iron is low. Diet, heavy periods and digestive tract bleeding need clinical assessment, and new iron deficiency in an adult man is usually investigated. Thalassemia trait can imitate iron deficiency on a blood count and requires Hb electrophoresis or HPLC. Infection, inflammation and liver disease reduce the reliability of iron markers. Interpret alongside a blood count. ## After the Result If the pattern shows iron deficiency, your doctor will normally look for the cause as well as treat it, and will often repeat the profile after some weeks to see whether saturation is recovering. Keep each digital report, since the trend across tests is more informative than any one value, and tell the doctor about your shift pattern so the repeat is timed the same way. ## Packages That Include It When a doctor wants several panels, a package costs less than separate bookings. Advanced Full Body Checkup with Vitamin D & B12 (89 parameters) is the first package to include Iron Studies, and the larger packages do too. They also hold a Kidney Function Test (KFT) and Lipid Profile and Fasting Glucose, so a 10-hour fast applies; this profile does not need one. ## What Is Not Included No ferritin, no haemoglobin or blood count, no Vitamin B12 or folate, no Hb electrophoresis or HPLC, no reticulocyte count, no peripheral smear, and no tests for gastrointestinal blood loss. Each is a separate order. Processing is at a NABL-accredited laboratory in our network. NABL accreditation is granted to individual laboratories after evaluation of their equipment, processes and personnel, and HealthVas does not claim to hold it. ## Sources National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), 2019–21.
