For anyone who starts work at 6 AM on a factory floor or a trade counter, the difficulty with a Lipid Profile is the fast, not the test. It reports nine parameters from one serum sample and needs 10 hours without food. It is also in every full body package, starting with the Basic Full Body Checkup (77 parameters); a package costs less than booking several panels separately. ## Fitting a 10-Hour Fast Around an Early Shift Triglycerides rise for hours after eating, and by an unpredictable amount, so a sample drawn after food can read high and distort the values calculated from it. Fasting means plain water only: no chai, no biscuit. With an early shift, the simplest plan is a last meal by about 8 PM and a home draw at 6 AM, before you leave, which is exactly 10 hours. A phlebotomist can reach NIT 1, Sector 15, Sector 28, Ballabgarh or Greater Faridabad at that hour, and you eat and head to work. On a night-shift rota, count the 10 hours from your last food instead of looking at the clock. Avoid unusually heavy exertion just before the draw; ordinary working days are fine. Take prescribed medicines as usual unless your doctor has said otherwise, and mention any cholesterol-lowering tablet when booking so the report can be read with that in mind. ## What the 9 Parameters Report Cholesterol Total, Cholesterol - LDL, Cholesterol HDL, Cholesterol VLDL, Non-HDL cholesterol and Triglycerides are the primary values. Cholesterol LDL/Cholesterol HDL, Cholesterol Total/Cholesterol HDL Ratio and HDL/LDL Ratio restate them as ratios. Non-HDL cholesterol is total cholesterol minus HDL and counts every particle that can deposit in artery walls. The AHA/ACC Guideline on the Management of Blood Cholesterol (2018) found it a better predictor than LDL alone. ## A Physical Job Does Not Replace a Lipid Test Active work is good for health, but it does not tell you what your cholesterol is. A physically demanding job can coexist with raised LDL or triglycerides, especially with family history, diet or diabetes in the picture. Doctors in established Faridabad sectors commonly advise a yearly lipid profile after 35 or 40, earlier with family history. Diabetes (around 101 million Indian adults, ICMR-INDIAB, 2023) and an underactive thyroid (roughly one in ten, Unnikrishnan et al., 2013) also change lipids; the Full Body Checkup with Thyroid (80 parameters) adds the thyroid check. ## Who Is Usually Advised to Test A Lipid Profile is commonly advised for adults with diabetes, high blood pressure, a family history of early heart disease, a history of smoking or tobacco use, or unexplained high readings on an earlier report. It is also routine in annual screening for older adults. Once a person is on cholesterol-lowering treatment, repeat testing every few months shows whether it is working, and a home draw before an early shift makes those repeats easy to keep. The report is digital within 24 hours, with values outside range flagged. ## What This Profile Cannot Do It does not diagnose heart disease, and a normal result does not exclude it. Doctors combine these values with age, blood pressure, diabetes, smoking and family history. One result is a snapshot, and illness, weight loss or pregnancy can alter it. ## What Is Not Included No Apolipoprotein B, Apolipoprotein A1, Lipoprotein a, Homocysteine or high-sensitivity C-Reactive Protein; those are in the Cardiac Profile package, which adds to a Lipid Profile and does not replace it. Also not included: glucose, HbA1c, thyroid, liver or kidney tests, an ECG, a stress test and a troponin. Each is a separate order. ## Sources American College of Cardiology / American Heart Association, Guideline on the Management of Blood Cholesterol, 2018 · Anjana RM, Mohan V, et al.
