Profile: Thyroid Profile. Tests: 3 parameters: Tri-Iodothyronine Total (TT3), Thyroxine - Total (TT4) and Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH). Price: From 370. Fasting: Not required. Sample: Serum. Reports: 24 hours, digital. Home collection: Available across Gurgaon; any charge is shown in the booking flow. Lab: NABL-accredited. A Thyroid Profile is usually requested after a doctor hears a cluster of vague complaints: tiredness, weight change, feeling unusually cold or warm, hair thinning, irregular periods, palpitations. In Gurgaon those complaints are easily blamed on long desk days and air-conditioned offices, so the thyroid is often checked late. This profile reports three hormones from one serum sample and can be booked for any hour of the day. ## What the Three Results Show Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) is released by the pituitary gland and tells the thyroid how hard to work. It is the most sensitive screening value: when the thyroid underperforms, TSH rises, often before the thyroid hormones themselves fall out of range. Thyroxine - Total (TT4) is the main hormone the thyroid releases. Tri-Iodothyronine Total (TT3) is the more active form, made largely by conversion of T4 in the tissues. "Total" means the figure includes hormone attached to carrier proteins as well as the small free fraction. ## Reading the Pattern, Not One Number High TSH with low TT4 is the classic picture of an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). High TSH with TT4 still inside the range is called subclinical hypothyroidism, the finding doctors most often have to make a judgement about, usually by repeating the test after some weeks. Low TSH with raised TT4 or TT3 points to an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). A study of Indian adults found that about one in ten is hypothyroid, and that women are affected roughly three times as often as men (15.86% versus 5.02%) (Unnikrishnan et al., 2013). ## Desk Days, Daylight and Thyroid Symptoms Fatigue, weight gain, constipation and low mood overlap heavily with what sitting for ten hours under office lighting produces by itself. A thyroid result separates the two explanations with a single draw, which is why it is a sensible early test for anyone working the DLF Cyber City, Udyog Vihar or Golf Course Road corridors who feels flat for no clear reason. Because no fast is needed, a phlebotomist can visit before the commute, or on a work-from-home day between meetings. TSH varies a little through the day, so if you are repeating the test to follow treatment, choose roughly the same time of day on each occasion. ## What This Profile Cannot Tell You It cannot say why a thyroid is underactive. The commonest cause is autoimmune, and that is shown by antibody tests such as Anti-TPO, which are not part of this profile. Because TT3 and TT4 are total rather than free hormone, results can shift when carrier protein levels change, for example in pregnancy or with oestrogen-containing medicines, without any real change in thyroid function. TSH can be temporarily off during a serious illness and after some medicines. Biotin supplements can interfere with certain immunoassays, so mention them. A single borderline result is normally repeated before a diagnosis is made. This profile does not look at thyroid structure, so lumps or swelling need an ultrasound. ## Packages That Include It If a doctor has asked for a thyroid profile along with blood count, liver, kidney or lipid tests, a package costs less than booking each separately. Full Body Checkup with Thyroid (80 parameters) is the package where it first appears, and it is also part of Advanced Full Body Checkup with Vitamin D & B12 (89 parameters) and the larger packages above that. The trade-off: every package includes a Lipid Profile and Fasting Glucose, so it needs a 10-hour fast, while this profile on its own does not. ## What Is Not Included No Free T3 or Free T4, no Anti-TPO or anti-thyroglobulin antibodies, no thyroglobulin, no reverse T3, no calcitonin, no thyroid ultrasound or scan, and no Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, blood count or iron markers. Each is a separate order. The lab is a NABL-accredited laboratory in our network; NABL accreditation is granted to individual laboratories after evaluation of their equipment, processes and personnel, and HealthVas does not claim to hold it. ## Sources Unnikrishnan AG, et al.
