If you are searching for an iron test near me after a shift and a tired, grey-faced morning, the first question is whether the tiredness is the shift or something measurable. Iron Studies measures whether iron is behind a low haemoglobin. It requires no fasting, so the sample can be drawn straight after work or before the next shift without rearranging meals or sleep. ## What Each Result Tells You Iron is the amount in circulation at that moment. Transferrin is the protein that transports it. Iron Binding Capacity - Total (TIBC) is how much iron that protein could carry in total, and UIBC (Unsaturated Iron-Binding Capacity) is the portion still free, so Iron plus UIBC equals TIBC. % Iron Saturation is Iron as a percentage of TIBC. A low figure there is the clearest single indicator of iron shortage. ## The Patterns Iron deficiency: iron low, TIBC and transferrin high, saturation low. Anaemia of chronic disease: iron low, TIBC low or normal. Iron overload: iron and saturation high, UIBC low. Over 50% of Indian women aged 15–49 are anaemic (NFHS-5, 2019–21), and a pattern on this profile confirms whether iron is the cause. ## Ferritin Is Not Here, and Why That Matters Ferritin is the usual iron-store marker and is not among these five parameters. It is an acute-phase reactant, so inflammation or infection raises it and can hide iron deficiency. Saturation and TIBC give an additional view. Ferritin is available as a separate order. ## Timing for Night and Rotational Shifts Serum iron follows a daily pattern, generally higher in the morning of a conventional day, and it rises for a few hours after an iron tablet or an iron-rich meal. For someone on nights, the sensible approach is consistency: give the sample at a similar point in your own cycle each time, particularly if you are repeating the test to see whether treatment is working. Tell your doctor your shift pattern and any supplements. Home collection in Sector 62, Sector 128, Sector 76, Sector 143 or Noida Extension can be booked around sleep, and the Noida workforce skews young, so a first baseline is as valid a reason as a symptom. ## What the Profile Cannot Do It cannot explain why iron is low. Diet, heavy periods and slow digestive bleeding need clinical assessment. It cannot diagnose thalassemia trait, which can look like iron deficiency on a blood count and requires Hb electrophoresis or HPLC. Infection, inflammation and liver disease can distort iron markers. Results should be read alongside a blood count, because iron status without haemoglobin is incomplete. ## After the Result If the pattern shows iron deficiency, your doctor will usually look for the cause before or alongside treatment, and will often repeat the profile after some weeks to see whether saturation is recovering. Keep each report so the trend can be read across tests, because that trend is more informative than any single value. ## Packages That Include It If a doctor has requested several tests, a package costs less than separate bookings. Advanced Full Body Checkup with Vitamin D & B12 (89 parameters) is the first package to include Iron Studies; larger packages above it do too. All contain a Lipid Profile and Fasting Glucose, requiring a 10-hour fast that is hard to fit around night shifts; this profile alone does not. ## What Is Not Included No ferritin, no haemoglobin or blood count, no Vitamin B12 or folate, no Hb electrophoresis or HPLC, no reticulocyte count, no peripheral smear, and no tests for gastrointestinal blood loss. Each is separate. Samples go to a NABL-accredited laboratory in our network. NABL accreditation is granted to individual laboratories after evaluation of their equipment, processes and personnel, and HealthVas does not claim to hold it. ## Sources National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), 2019–21.
