Profile: Lipid Profile. Tests: 9 parameters. Price: From 390. Fasting: 10 hours required. Sample: Serum. Reports: 24 hours, digital. Home collection: Available across Noida. Lab: NABL-accredited. The Lipid Profile is the awkward one for a night-shift worker, because it is the one blood test that depends on when you last ate. It reports nine parameters from one serum sample and requires a 10-hour fast. It is also in every full body package, starting with the Basic Full Body Checkup (77 parameters), so if you need several panels a package costs less than booking them one by one. ## Fasting When Your Day Starts at Night The 10 hours are counted from your last food, not from the clock. Triglycerides rise for hours after a meal and by an unpredictable amount, so a post-meal sample can read falsely high and distort values calculated from it. Fasting means plain water only. Say you finish a shift at 6 AM and ate a meal at 2 AM. A draw at 6:30 AM is not fasted. Pick a sleeping pattern that gives the gap instead: eat your last meal before your usual sleep, sleep, and have the sample drawn on waking, as long as at least 10 hours have passed since you ate. If you wake at 4 PM after a meal at 5 AM, that is a legitimate fasting draw. A phlebotomist visiting Sector 62, Sector 137 or Noida Extension can come at that hour. Tell the booking team your actual rhythm so the slot makes sense. Consistency matters when you repeat the test: keep the same eating-to-draw gap each time so readings are comparable. Unlike TSH or cortisol, lipids are not strongly tied to the hour of day, so the gap matters more than the time. ## What the 9 Parameters Report Cholesterol Total, Cholesterol - LDL, Cholesterol HDL, Cholesterol VLDL, Non-HDL cholesterol and Triglycerides are the primary values; Cholesterol LDL/Cholesterol HDL, Cholesterol Total/Cholesterol HDL Ratio and HDL/LDL Ratio are ratios built from them. Non-HDL cholesterol is total minus HDL and counts every particle that can deposit in artery walls. The AHA/ACC Guideline on the Management of Blood Cholesterol (2018) rates it a better predictor than LDL alone, particularly with high triglycerides. ## Shift Patterns and Metabolic Background Irregular meal times and disrupted sleep are known background factors for metabolic health, and doctors consider them next to the numbers. This profile cannot say whether shift work is affecting you; it reports lipid values and nothing else. Diabetes, present in around 101 million Indian adults (ICMR-INDIAB, 2023), and an underactive thyroid, affecting roughly one in ten (Unnikrishnan et al., 2013), also alter lipids, which is why the Full Body Checkup with Thyroid (80 parameters) is a sensible step up. ## First Baseline or Package? If you are in your twenties or thirties and want a first adult baseline, the Basic Full Body Checkup covers lipids, glucose, liver, kidney, urine and blood count in one visit, and the single fast serves all of them. If your doctor has asked only for cholesterol, book the Lipid Profile alone and avoid paying for panels you do not need. ## What This Profile Cannot Do It does not diagnose heart disease and a normal result does not exclude it. Risk comes from combining these values with age, blood pressure, diabetes, smoking and family history. Any single result is a snapshot, and illness, weight loss or pregnancy can change it. ## What Is Not Included No Apolipoprotein B, Apolipoprotein A1, Lipoprotein a, Homocysteine or high-sensitivity C-Reactive Protein; these are in the Cardiac Profile package, a supplement to the Lipid Profile and not a replacement. Not included either: glucose, HbA1c, thyroid, liver or kidney tests, an ECG, a stress test or a troponin. Each is a separate order. ## Sources American College of Cardiology / American Heart Association, Guideline on the Management of Blood Cholesterol, 2018 · Anjana RM, Mohan V, et al.
