The Antinuclear Antibody (ANA) test by immunofluorescence (IFA) looks for antibodies that target the body's own cell nuclei. Doctors use it as a first step when symptoms such as joint pain, rashes, mouth ulcers or unexplained fatigue raise the question of an autoimmune condition such as lupus. One blood sample, report within 12 hours, processed at a NABL-accredited laboratory in our network. From 1200. Home collection is available across Delhi, including Saket, Greater Kailash, Hauz Khas, Dwarka, Rohini, Pitampura, Karol Bagh, Mayur Vihar and Janakpuri, so a morning fasting sample can be taken without a journey. Any collection charge is shown before you confirm.

What the ANA Test Tells You

At a Glance

Test: Anti Nuclear Antibody (ANA) - IFA. Result: Positive or negative, usually with a titre (such as 1:80, 1:160) and a staining pattern. Price: From 1200. Fasting: Overnight fasting is preferred by the lab. Sample: Blood (serum). Reports: Within 12 hours, digital. Home collection: Available across Delhi; any charge is shown at booking. Lab: NABL-accredited. ## What It Detects Antinuclear antibodies are autoantibodies directed against proteins in the nucleus of the body's own cells. They are found in many autoimmune conditions, including systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjögren's syndrome, scleroderma and mixed connective tissue disease. IFA is the standard method. ## Reading the Result The report shows whether the test is positive, the titre (the highest dilution at which antibodies are still seen) and the pattern. A higher titre is more meaningful. A low-titre positive result is common in healthy people, especially women and older adults, and does not by itself mean disease. A negative ANA makes lupus unlikely but does not rule out every autoimmune condition. ANA is a screening test and is followed by more specific antibody tests chosen by your doctor. ## Who Orders It Rheumatologists and physicians order it for persistent joint pain and swelling, skin rashes made worse by sunlight, recurrent mouth ulcers, unexplained fever or fatigue, or abnormal urine or kidney tests. Please do not read a result alone; the answer depends on your symptoms and examination. ## Joint Pain Is Not Always Age In many Delhi families, joint pain in a woman in her 20s or 30s is put down to weakness, tiredness or too much screen time, and in older relatives to age. Persistent pain with morning stiffness, swelling, rash or ulcers deserves a doctor's assessment, and ANA is one of the usual first tests. A home sample, with an early morning slot because fasting is preferred, spares a family member the trip. ## What Is Not Included This is the ANA IFA test only. It does not include ENA or anti-dsDNA, an ANA blot profile, ESR or CRP, or any kidney test. Content last reviewed: October 2026

Who Should Get an ANA Test?

  • People with persistent joint pain, swelling or morning stiffness – ANA is often an early test when an autoimmune cause is suspected.
  • Young women with long-running aches, fatigue or hair loss – These are often put down to weakness. If common causes are excluded, your doctor may suggest an ANA.
  • People with rashes that worsen in sunlight or recurrent mouth ulcers – These can be features of lupus, and ANA is the usual first screen.
  • Older relatives with new, unexplained joint pain or dry eyes and mouth – A home sample avoids a trip across Delhi. Your doctor will decide what else is needed.
  • People with abnormal urine or kidney tests – Some autoimmune diseases affect the kidneys. Your doctor will decide if ANA is needed.
  • Anyone with a family history of autoimmune disease and symptoms – Share your history with the doctor, who will advise on testing.

How to Prepare

Fasting: The laboratory prefers overnight fasting (8 to 10 hours; water is fine). Book a morning slot. Sample: One venous blood draw (serum). Medicines: Continue prescribed medicines and tell your doctor about all of them, since some drugs can cause a positive ANA. Symptoms: note your symptoms and when they began, so you can tell the rheumatologist. Home collection: Available across Delhi — Saket, Greater Kailash, Hauz Khas, Vasant Kunj, Lajpat Nagar, Malviya Nagar, Dwarka, Janakpuri, Rajouri Garden, Paschim Vihar, Rohini, Pitampura, Shalimar Bagh, Karol Bagh, Patel Nagar, Mayur Vihar, Preet Vihar and Laxmi Nagar. Any collection charge is shown at booking. Reports: Digital, within 12 hours of collection.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Anti Nuclear Antibody (ANA) - IFA in Delhi

What is the ANA test?

It looks for antinuclear antibodies, which target the nuclei of the body's own cells. It is a screening test for autoimmune conditions such as lupus.

What is the price of an ANA test in Delhi?

It starts from 1200 in Delhi. Home collection is available and any collection charge is shown before you confirm. Digital reports are included.

Do I need to fast?

The laboratory prefers overnight fasting (8 to 10 hours, water allowed). Book a morning slot.

How long does the report take?

Does a positive ANA mean I have lupus?

Not necessarily. Low-titre positives are common in healthy people. Your doctor reads the titre and pattern along with your symptoms and may order more specific tests.

What do titre and pattern mean?

The titre is the highest dilution at which antibodies are still seen, such as 1:80 or 1:320. Higher is more significant. The pattern describes how the antibodies stain the cell and helps guide follow-up tests.

Does a negative ANA rule out autoimmune disease?

It makes lupus unlikely but does not rule out every autoimmune condition. Your doctor will decide.

Can I book the test for a parent or relative?

Yes. Add their details at booking. The phlebotomist comes to the house, so an older or less mobile family member does not have to travel.
