Package: Hair Fall Test Package for Men. Tests: 68 parameters, 16 components. Price: From 1999. Fasting: Not required. Sample: Blood, single draw, morning slot preferred. Reports: 24 hours, digital. Home collection: Free across Faridabad. Lab: NABL-accredited. The systemic base — iron, thyroid, vitamins, minerals, liver, kidney, inflammation, autoimmune — is shared with the Hair Fall Test Package for Women. The hormone section is not: this version carries Dihydrotestosterone DHT, Free, Testosterone Total and Sex Hormone Binding Globulin, which the women's package lacks. ## The CRP Here Rises With Hard Work, Not Only With Disease C-Reactive Protein - CRP Quantitative gives a number in mg/L, making it trackable — and the value most easily misread by someone whose work is physical. Strenuous exertion raises CRP transiently, and raises creatinine and uric acid too, both reported in the 12-parameter Kidney Function Test. A sample the morning after a hard shift can show a mildly raised CRP and flagged creatinine describing the work rather than disease. The standard advice — nothing strenuous for 24 hours — assumes a training session you can skip. Lifting, loading and machine work are not, so the practical instruction differs: book the draw after your longest gap from physical work, and say at booking what it involves. Mention fever or illness in the past two weeks too, since CRP rises with any infection, including a cold. Early starts matter too. Testosterone Total, TSH and 21-Deoxy Cortisol, serum are read against a morning sample, conventionally 7 to 9 AM — inside your working day if the shift starts at six, so take the earliest home slot before you leave, or book on a day off. ## Today's Shedding Reports on Last Quarter Systemic hair loss is usually telogen effluvium: a trigger — low iron, an underactive thyroid, a high-fever illness, surgery, rapid weight loss, severe stress — pushes many follicles out of their growth phase at once, but the hair sheds only two to three months later. So shedding noticed this week reports on the month before last, and testing still helps because the deficiency persists. Male pattern hair loss runs over years instead, through follicle sensitivity to DHT at the temples and crown. ## The Androgen Group Dihydrotestosterone DHT, Free (1): the androgen that miniaturises scalp follicles in male pattern hair loss, and the hormone finasteride and dutasteride suppress. Testosterone Total (1): the precursor and a measure of androgen status. Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (1): the carrier protein deciding how much testosterone is biologically free. Pattern hair loss is largely inherited follicle sensitivity to DHT rather than high circulating DHT, and men with textbook androgenetic alopecia usually have normal androgens. These tests exclude an endocrine abnormality and set a pre-treatment baseline; they do not confirm or rule out pattern hair loss, a clinical and trichoscopic diagnosis. ## Blood Picture - Peripheral Smear Examination Most of this panel measures levels, and levels move — CRP with last week's shift, zinc and magnesium with this morning's supplement, the hormones with the hour of the draw. This profile reports structure instead: a red cell's size and shape are not shifted by yesterday. A qualified pathologist prepares a slide, reads it under a microscope and reports Red Blood Cells, White Blood Cells, Platelets, Hemoparasites and a written Impression. No analyser does this: the cost is pathologist time, the line item dropped first to hold a price point. For hair loss the red cells carry it: small pale cells mean iron deficiency, the commonest nutritional cause of diffuse shedding; large cells mean B12 or folate deficiency; sickle-shaped cells mean sickle cell disease. The same slide shows blast cells suggesting leukaemia, clumped platelets an analyser returns as dangerously low, and malarial parasites under Hemoparasites — endemic with dengue in Delhi NCR, where a fever illness is itself a shedding trigger. ## The Other 12 Components Iron Studies (5): Serum Iron, TIBC, UIBC, Transferrin, % Saturation. Ferritin, the most sensitive single iron marker in hair loss, is not in this profile; a doctor may add it. CBC with ESR (21): anaemia, infection, inflammation. Thyroid Profile (3): TT3, TT4, TSH; under- and overactive thyroid both cause diffuse loss, and one in ten Indian adults is hypothyroid (Unnikrishnan et al., IJEM, 2013). Active Vitamin - B12 (1): holotranscobalamin, the fraction cells can use, not total B12, which can read normal while the usable share is low; 47–70% of Indians deficient, over 70% of vegetarians (Yajnik et al., JAPI, 2006). Vitamin D (25-Hydroxy) (1): under 20 ng/mL deficiency, 20–30 insufficiency (Endocrine Society, 2011); Indian prevalence 40% to over 90% (Ritu & Gupta, IJCM, 2014). Zinc Serum (1), Magnesium (1): keratin synthesis. 21-Deoxy Cortisol, serum (1): an adrenal steroid precursor, for specialist interpretation. Anti Nuclear Antibody (ANA) (1): screens for autoimmune disease such as lupus, which can scar follicles permanently, but is positive in many healthy people too. Liver Function Test (12), Kidney Function Test (12): chronic organ disease thins hair. ## Sources Unnikrishnan et al., IJEM, 2013;17(4):647–652 · Yajnik et al., JAPI, 2006;54:775–782 · Ritu & Gupta, IJCM, 2014;39(4):178–184 · Endocrine Society Clinical Practice Guideline, 2011 Content last reviewed: October 2026
